About This Project

Find a Murderer's Grave is a niche public database designed to help families, funeral directors, and genealogists identify when a potential burial plot is located near the grave of a convicted murderer or other high-profile criminal whose burial location is a matter of public record.

Why it exists

Services like Find a Grave are invaluable for millions of people. However, they do not provide any mechanism to surface proximity to the graves of people who have committed some of the worst crimes in American history.

When families are making one of the most permanent and emotional decisions — where their loved one will rest forever — they deserve access to the same kind of information they would use when choosing a neighborhood or a school.

Our approach

• We only include deceased individuals who were convicted in a court of law.
• Every entry must have clear, verifiable public sources (court records, reputable journalism, cemetery documentation).
• User-submitted information goes through human review before publication.
• We deliberately keep the database small and high-quality rather than attempting to be comprehensive.
• Many famous killers were cremated or their families successfully kept grave locations private. We only publish what is verifiably public.

Limitations (important)

This is an early-stage project. Our initial seed data is very small. Over time we will add more cases as they are properly researched and sourced. If you know of a well-documented case that should be included, please use the submission form.

We are not affiliated with Find a Grave, Ancestry, or any cemetery organization.

Technical notes

The site is built as a simple PHP + MySQL application that can run on standard GoDaddy cPanel hosting. Maps use Leaflet + OpenStreetMap. Proximity calculations use the Haversine formula.
